Any advise or direction? I am considering obtaining a teacher certification in special education.?

I currently hold a BA in psychology with a minor in abnormality. I am seeking a teacher certification through an alternative program. I do not have any concrete teaching experience, however, I have volunteered many hours at a local state hospital and in an Alzheimer’s unit where I facilitated cognitive activities. In January I will be starting with a volunteer program through Junior Achievement. I have a strong desire to help children with learning disabilities. I would greatly appreciate advise, direction or personal experiences that anyone can provide.

Also, I am working on my personal statement, any advise where to start or what to include?

Thank you to all who can help!

I want to slap this girl so badly?

I have this one friend who has a slight learning disability. I am NOT discriminating but I have gotten to know this girl and she is not the type of person I want to be friends with anymore. The learning disability makes her slow–not just academically(which I do not have a problem with)–but slow common sense wise and common courtesy wise. She is ANNOYING and LOUD, and is obnoxious(however I am not sure if she can control being those things). She attached herself to me before I could do anything about it. I am a nice person; I get along with lots and lots of people, but this me and this girl ain’t gonna work out.

She is too much to handle. She has always asked me to do things with her and I agree sometimes even though I don’t want to. I just try to be nice. She now considers me on of her best friends. I just do not like her. Once again, not b/c she has a learning disability–but b/c she(possibly from the learning disability) is too slow to even have a decent conversation with. She does not understand manners. She is annoying.

What would you do?

What are good Degrees & Programs for people that have learning disabilities?
